Year of the Rat - January 2020

Featured Artists

Some of the work that's been on my mind the past few months has come from Erin Fostel, David Espinosa, Shyama Golden, Simone Naharrana. Fostel is a local Baltimore artist who does some insane landscapes of Baltimore and "bedroom scenes", using only primarily charcoal. Espinosa or "El Dee" is someone I found out about because of his work in for Creative Mornings. His work is vibrant, cartoonish and fun, and his posters have a wonderful use of simplified, but intense, color. Another artist who does not hold back on intensity is Shyama Golden, who creates a mix of hyper-realistic portraiture with surrealism. She also experiments a lot with patterns and some very surreal wallpaper.

Read more about these artists and more in this month's sketchbook.
